The Need
The labour insertion process of migrants is often hindered by certain limitations, which the focus on retraining and job placement cannot solve.
They need to be preceded by vocational guidance interventions before employment that help migrants become aware of their resources and their real expendability in the new context.
The Vision
The Guidelines elaborated by the ESPoR project intend to promote a new vision of vocational guidance, which describes a labour market populated by competent, motivated, and professionally satisfied citizens, including foreigners.
These deduce strategic directions and priorities, specific operational activities and relational modalities between operators and migrants.

The Career Counselling Path
An example of action is the ESPoR career counselling model. It consists of a vocational guidance path based on autobiographical narration that helps the migrant become aware of their skills and resources, develop a better knowledge of the labour market and become open to new, more realistic and satisfying career paths.
The Handbook
A handbook was prepared to facilitate the dissemination of the model. The first part of the document provides an overview of the most current career counselling models and methodologies, reinterpreted in the light of the particular target group. It is followed by a detailed description of the career counseling path, accompanied by operational sheets and working materials.

The ESPaR project was conceived by the Center for Research on Vocational Guidance and Socio-Professional Development of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. It was financed by the Italian Ministry of the Interior with the National Programme of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2014-20.
